Welcome to the bicentennial edition of The University of Michigan, An Encyclopedic Survey. This edition is an ongoing project to update, digitize, and collate the comprehensive Survey, which was originally published in the 1940s and updated in the 1970s. This new edition, which has begun with academic units, was launched in preparation for the University’s 2017 bicentennial. It brings together all previous and new entries for a unit in accessible online and print-on-demand formats. The bicentennial edition will continue to expand as updated entries are completed, eventually incorporating the entire original Encyclopedic Survey as well as new entries.
