Bert Edwin Quick was born in 1886 in Lowell, Mich. He enrolled in the University of Michigan where, after briefly attending the university's Medical School from 1906-1908, he received his A.B. (1908) and Ph.D. in botany (1916). While a student, Quick held the Angeline Bradford Whittier Fellowship in Botany (circa 1911-1913). He was a member of the university's chapter of the Sigma Xi fraternity.

Quick worked at various institutions over the course of his professional career, including the University of Michigan Biological Station, the University of Illinois, Iowa Wesleyan College, Southwestern College (Winfield, Kan.), Westminster College (New Wilmington, Pa.), and DePauw University. His professional responsibilities took him to various regions of the world, from the lower peninsula of Michigan to Buitenzorg, Java (now Bogor, Indonesia).

Quick was a member of the Ecological Society of America. His research interests included ericaceae, phytogeography, and the comparative study of climax associations in southern Michigan.

Bert Edwin Quick passed away in Grand Rapids, Mich. in 1960.
