Scope and Content:

Materials include Davis family history, his father's reminiscences of life in Clinton, Michigan, and relating to the United Church of Christ of Clinton, and some personal and biographical papers; pamphlets and flyers relating to student political activities at the University of Michigan; collected materials about local Michigan churches, many of them in Dexter, Mich.; collected materials about Dearborn Public Schools system and schools in Michigan.

Biographical / Historical:

James Edward Davis was born to William Franklin and Mable Davis. Davis spent his early years in Clinton, Michigan where he graduated from high school. He studied education at the University of Michigan and became involved with political activism on campus. During his time as an undergraduate student, Davis actively participated in political demonstrations around campus. Davis found work as a history teacher in a few of the schools within the Dearborn Public School district. His interest in politics continued after his time at University of Michigan, as he remained involved with various teaching strikes as well as expanding teacher's rights in the Dearborn Public School District. Davis has been very involved with his religion as he has been active in various churches around Michigan.

Donated by James E. Davis (donor no. 5111 ), in several accessions between 2012 and 2014.
