Arrangement

John Sinclair donated his papers to the Michigan Historical Collections of the University of Michigan in the spring of 1979. The library received periodic small donations from Sinclair throughout the 1980s and 1990s. A second large accession was received in the spring of 1999. In both major accessions the order of the collection, except for certain sections, was disorganized with a good deal of duplication. Processing was further complicated by the intricate network of cultural and business organizations which Sinclair founded or supported. Due to the overlapping nature of much of the collection, material on some subjects may be found within several different series. The researcher is advised to examine different series in order to ensure that documentation is not missed.

The Sinclair collection has been divided into four subgroups: Textual Files, Printed Material, Sound Recordings, and Visual Material.
