Biography

Mary Carlton was a Detroit resident. In October 1938, she was elected a Commander of the Detroit Chapter of Women's Auxiliary to the Disabled American Veterans. The chapter was devoted to the cause of improving and advancing the condition, health and interests of the disabled veterans and their families. Activities included fund raising, hospital visits, legislative outreach, patriotic education, organization of social and educational events and concerts, etc.

Two scrapbooks contain photographs of the officers of the chapter (identified), annual summaries of the activities, correspondence and thank you notes, photographs taken during the events, newspaper clippings, and ephemera.
