Biography

Stanley Phillips Smith received his A.B. from the University of Michigan in 1917. During his time at Michigan, Smith was a member of the Alpha Phi Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity (also known as "FIJI") and of the Druids, the University of Michigan student honorary society. He also spent time as an associate editor of the "Michiganensian," the University of Michigan yearbook. After graduating from the University of Michigan, Smith received his A.M. from the Columbia College (1920) and continued his law studies at George Washington University. Smith served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in 1917-1919.


Collection Scope and Content Note

Scrapbook contains photographs of the Alpha Phi chapter house exterior and of its interiors, group portraits and photographs taken during social and sporting events, and chapter activities; also select chapter publications, dance cards, event programs, and other ephemera. The scrapbook also contains Smith's portrait and his U.S. Army Signal Corps enlistment papers.
