CTC Sports was a commercial video production company founded by Bob Lipson and based in Farmington Hills, Mich. CTC and Lipson had a long and close association with the University of Michigan Athletic Department. Beginning in 1975 CTC produced the Sunday morning football and basketball coaches' shows which were broadcast on Detroit Television stations. CTC cameramen also videotaped ,with sideline cameras, all football games (beginning 1980) and most home and tournament basketball games, as well as occasional competition in other sports, recorded coach and player interviews and special features, and produced year-end wrap-ups for football, men's basketball and sometimes an overall piece on all varsity sports. CTC also recorded the satellite feed of football and men's basketball games broadcast by national or regional networks, beginning in 1980 for football and 1984/85 for basketball.
In 2000 the Athletic Department began producing of the coaches' shows at its studio in Crisler Arena and much of the other video production was brought inside as well, though CTC staff continued to be involved in video production. Later the Athletic Department essentially bought out CTC and acquired its tape archive.
Bentley Historical Library received the CTC tape archive in 2001 and Athletic Department Television Studio (Michigan Sports Television) transfers additional material periodically.
The Michigan Replay broadcast programs have been cataloged separately. The remainder of the CTC and Athletic Department tape archive is cataloged as Athletic Department / CTC Videotapes.
