verso: Each year at the start of winter, huge amounts of ice were cut out of the bay and hauled up this tramway and stored during the winter for use the following summer. Photograph was made 1889. E. Shay's first engine (Baby No.1) is in photograph also. This is the first of all the famous Shays made, and this one was made in Harbor Springs, Mich!
