In this issue of Digital Initiatives, we examine two large-scale digital resources focused on global fashion and fashion histories. Both the Berg Fashion Library and the Google Cultural Institute’s “We Wear Culture” project offer truly staggering repositories of images and information about textiles and dress, across time and around the globe. Each employs myriad cutting-edge technologies to make its collection accessible and functional for researchers—or for anyone who is curious about dress in Asia.

Digital Initiatives is a column that explores digital tools, research resources, publications, and learning opportunities in art history and related fields, with a special focus on topics relevant to Ars Orientalis readers. Each volume will present a series of reviews or discussions around an interconnected set of digital resources or projects, written by scholars or other practitioners.
