Translation
Aurelius Chairemon, son of Horigenes and Thaesis from . . ., to Aurelius Phamais, son of Nemesion and Tapontos from the village of Tebtynis. I have leased from you, of the parcel of . . . land named after Demosthenes located in the village of Tebetny, 2 1/2 arourai to be sown with vegetable seed, for the sowing of the present 2nd year, for one-half the resulting crop, (to be delivered) on the threshing floors. A half share of the whole shall belong to me the lessee as a return for the seed which I put into the ground and all my expenses from seedtime to harvest and winnowing; and the remaining half shall belong to you Phamais as a return for the public dues on the land and for your rent. After the winnowing we shall take the produce in equal shares, and in the sowing you will supply me with three yoke of oxen without charge. The public dues are to be paid by you, Phamais, and when asked the formal question I so declared. The lease is valid. Year 2 of the Emperor Caesar Marcus Iulius Philippus Pius Felix and Marcus Iulius Philippus the most noble Caesar, Augusti, Hathyr 8.
I, Aurelius Chairemon, have leased as stated. I, Aurelius Amoi . . ., have written on his behalf, as he states that he is illiterate.
