- Conservation Status
- The roll is now in two folders. The order of the fragments in the roll is in no doubt whatever because the writing runs across all the breaks and permits perfect joins to be effected. The lower half of the roll is severely damaged, mainly as a result of breaking along ancient folds. Some more smaller fragments which have sone traces of ink are placed below the papyrus (NL).
- Palaeographic Description
- Two hands have cooperated to produce the text. The list of arrears is the work of a large, somewhat coarse hand peculiarly characteristic of the period. A second, more precise but in no way finer hand used a darker ink to introduce numerous insertions into the text as well as frequent check marks. A marginal space of 3.5 cm was ledt before the first column of writing, and a blank space of 15 cm follows the sixth and the last column, which is itself a short column and occupies only the upper half of the sheet.

- Arrears of the chaff levy
- Content
- A list of arrears due on the chaff levy of the 19th year of Galerius, i.e. 310/311. The collectors are not named, but they are idenified as Seuthes, son of Heras and Isidoros, son of ptolemaios. The list also fails to give the date on which was compliled.
- From the details provided in the list we may conclude that a large majority of the landholders at Karanis in 314 had still not discharhed their responsibility for the chaff tax due in 310/311.
- The document consists of six columns and the total quantity of chaff entered in each column was appended at the bottom of the column. The total for col. I is almost completely preserved. Very littele remains of the total for col. II and those for cols III and IV have been lost. Of the total for col. V, only oblique strokes such as mark a fraction are now visible. The total placed at the bottom of col. VI is exceptional in being perfectly preserved, but the addition is false.
