- This pipe in effigy (a likeness or representation) of a hawk was excavated from Tremper Mound, a Hopewell culture site located five miles north of Portsmouth in Rush Township, Scioto County. The Hopewell People created the pipe in 0100-0200 AD. The Hawk is represented standing with it's head cocked. The eyes are inlaid with pearl and the feather pattern is carved in detail. This object is held in the Ohio Historical Society Archeology Collection.

A pottery pipe and iron tools are placed by the shoulder, a musket ball is between the ribs, and a brass kettle is by the knees. Approximate age is early historic.
