- ROUND RED BEADS: A pea size, dull red glass cane bead became the most common bead at the beginning of the late Colonial period. A variety of this bead has a dark green translucent core that looks black in reflected light and green in transmitted light. Approximate age is from 1675 to 1687. Rochester Junction Site, Mendon, New York. Dimensions are from 5 mm. to 6 mm. by 5 mm. to 8 mm.
