Description
This pipe in effigy (a likeness or representation) of a hawk or eagle was excavated from Tremper Mound, a Hopewell culture site located five miles north of Portsmouth in Rush Township, Scioto County. The Hopewell People created the pipe in 0100-0200 AD. The hawk or eagle is represented standing. The pattern of the bird's feathers is indicated and the pipe is carved from coral limestone.
