MONTEFIORE HOME. 471 Home," which was inaugurated on the 12th day of February, I894, and during the short space of its existence has proven itself so staunch and vigorous a co-worker that to-day the League is admittedly one of the most important factors in the social and financial success of the Home. The League consists of almost I,ooo people enjoying single blessedness, for until recently matrimony was looked upon as a disturbing element in this particular charity work. It is hinted that many leading members had for that reason delayed the leading question, but those who followed the call of Hymen immediately became members of the more mature branches of the Home, the League being regarded as a collegiate branch of true philanthropy. Miss M. E. Lesser, one of the young ladies of the League, LEON HIRSCH, Chairman of Board of Directors. started a school for the fifteen children now in the Institution. Here the crippled and unfortunate little ones are instructed three times a week by the brightest and sweetest members of the League, so that if ever cured, the children may be able to earn a livelihood. Daily, a number of young ladies visit the Institution, distributing delicacies, flowers, toys and books; but, above all, cheering the inmates with their bright faces, their sunny smiles and that true sympathy, which has its source in a good, pure, happy heart.
