Helpless, healthless, homeless! These terrible tidings loosen the purse-string even of a miser. Sex and sect, creed-bound or faith-free, young or old, each and everyone harboring a conscience ought to enlist his name as a contributor to the Montefiore Home, which, honoring a dead philanthropist, has cause sufficient to rear living ones. Henry Rothschild, Samuel Sachs, Samuel Untermeyer. These gentlemen are aided substantially by the Ladies' Auxiliary, a brief outline of which may prove interesting to our readers. We quote from President Mrs. Simon Borg's message: "The Ladies' Auxiliary Society of the Montefiore Home for Chronic Invalids, was organized in May, i888. " Its object is to supply the Home with all necessary requisites, such as bed and table linen, blankets, etc., and to provide clothing for the inmates. " Sewing meetings take place weekly. A series of informal concerts have been inaugurated by the Society, which have now become a permanent feature of the Institution. Two concerts are given every month. " These entertainments have proved a great boon to the patients, many of whom leave their beds so as to participate, and others, again, whose lives are spent in wheeling chairs, consider it as one of their greatest privileges to be among their fellow-sufferers and be entertained by those who so kindly volunteer their services and add so much to their happiness."
