Frederick Douglass ALS to Robert Adams, September 6, 1893
African American History Collection, 1729-1966 (bulk 1781-1865) [Box 5, Folder 18a]
EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE DE CHICAGO, PAVILLON HAÏTIEN. Jackson Park, Sept 6 1893. Robert Adams Dear friend: I make haste to answer your letter dated September first, and but yesterday received. The whole month of August has been full of Congresses to promote various objects, moral, scientific social and religious, and the whole months of September and October will be similarly occupied. Whoever told you that the World's Fair was worth seeing, told you the truth. Neither ten nor twenty days will be sufficient to see all that it is desirable to see, at this Fair. Mrs. Douglass and myself are not very considerable people, but it will take some time to see us. It is hardly worth while to designate any particular house. It may be well to go to the Pullman House near the grounds, take a room for a single night, and, if not suited, feel your way to other quarters. You will find us at the Haïtian Pavilion, Jackson Park. (Haïtian Pavilion is next to the German Building) With warmest regards from Mrs. Douglass and myself to your wife and all your household, as ever Yours most truly Fredk. Douglass
