Though I am in a feeble state of health, and write but few letters, I will not decline the satisfaction of answering the Note sent to me by my dear friend, Elizabeth Heyrick. My dear Hannah and myself remember her with peculiar pleasure, and are sincerely concerned for her health and welfare. We admire the zeal which she has manifested for the good of her fellow creatures; and we trust that her reward will be sure. Notes
The Quaker grammarian and moralist gives his opinion against immediate emancipation in the West Indies; "such a measure, would ultimately prove destruction of both the Whites and the Blacks, and the total ruin of the cause, in which we are engaged." However, he believes that Heyrick could publish a "plausible and humane" work on the subject and requests that she send him two copies of the work.
