To the Honorable the Judge of the Superior Court of Chancery for the Fredericksburg district The seperate answer of the Defendant Richard Bland Lee to a Bill exhibited to the Judge of the said Court by a certain Thomas Rowand against the Said Richard Bland Lee and others on the 23d day of April 1814 This defendant reserving to himself the right to make more full & perfect answer hereafter to all the untruths, mistatements and errors contained in the said Bill of the said Thomas Rowand at present to so much as he is desired to answer unto, answereth and saith - This Defendant having fully explained in a former answer to a Bill of the said Tomas Rowand exhibited in the Chancery Court of Williamsburg against this Defendant & others - the manner of his purchase of the Mortgage on Cabin Point Estate from the Hon. Bushrod Washington of Mount Vernon & his sale thereof to Henry Lee junr. begs leave to refer to the Said answer as containing a full answer to the complainants present Bill on the subject of the said mortgage & prays that the court will consider it as a part of this answer - In answer of so much of the complainants Bill as relates to certain negroes once the property of Genl. Henry Lee therein mentioned - this defendant saith - That the said Genl. Henry Lee being largely indebted to this defendant as appears by his bond given afterwards & on the ninth day of November in the year 1807 for the sum of forty thousand six hundred & sixty two dollars - This defendant did after wards purchase from the said Genl. Henry Lee certain negroes then in his possession, namely on the eighth twenty eighth of January in the year 1807 which negroes he dirived from the Cabin Point Estate on the [?] of a certain Mrs. Mary Smith - For which negroes the said Genl. Henry Lee did on the Said 28th day of Jany. 1807 execute a Bill of sale to this
