Mecklenburg June 20th 1795 Dear sir, lest anything may have prevented your coming to this country, I write by my Friend Captain Bedford, - to request, that you will be pleased to hasten to me the Vouchers necessary to obtain Wrights for my lands - in the N.W. Territory in your neighbourhood. I am making every preparation for a Removal of my Family, & shall certainly fix on those lands, if the invidious restriction concerning slaves can be done away. I wish you to exert your -self in procuring petitioners to endeavour to effect this at the next congress. - I shall here make a similar attempt. - Mr. Fox Loacted some land for Col. John Benton who was Heir &c. of Hutchins Burton on a Military Warrant. You will be pleased to attend to this eaqual with my own. I often think of the satisfaction I should exper =ience in being a Member of your Little Commu =nity; could it be affected I should abandon my Views in the State of Kentucky. I will thank you sir to write me fully of the situation & quality of my lands of those of Col Benton, also how your new settlement progresses; - present my Respects to Messrs. Ewell Vertner & Weir of Washington - & believe me to be with Esteem Dear sir, Your obt. Hble. Servt. Saml. Hopkins jr Nathl Massie
