- Context
- 322 N. Lewis was moved in 1928 from N. Ann Arbor by Clarence Wurster, a local mason. The lot on N. Ann Arbor was owned by D.S. Hallock in 1872, who sold it to Evi Brainard in 1876. It is speculated that the house was built ca.1875. The Brainards lived there until the early 1900's when it was sold to the Walkers. Helen Walker Wurster and her husband, Clarence spent their married life here. Probably due to the Depression, the Wursters remained in this house and did not build on the North Ann Arbor Street lot. Helen Wurster died in 1959; Clarence in 1983, on his 88th birthday. The house was left to Jane Kelly who did not occupy it, but sold it to the Herrons in March, 1984. The Herrons have done much remodeling, and found notes left by Clarence to himself on walls in the basement, as well as evidence of his masonry throughout the house.
