About the construction

Description: This transitional cross gable three story Queen Anne-Colonial Revival house sits in stately fashion upon a knoll surrounded by tall spruce trees. A full front porch is supported by round columns on a cement block base, probably added at a later date. There is a bay window on the north and south facades. The house sits on a molded cement foundation and is covered with aluminum siding.
Date Of Construction: 1910
Context: The Oscar and Matilda Wheeler house sits across the street from Mr.Wheeler's parent's house at 202 N. Lewis. It is likely that the house was built by the Wheelers, since they appear on Lewis in the 1910 census, the year the house was built. Oscar was proprietor of a drug and jewelry story on E. Michigan Avenue for several years. The Wheelers had seven children. An item in the July 22, 1909 Saline Observer states, "O.C.Wheeler's residence on Lewis St. is progressing nicely and will soon be enclosed."
