About the construction
- Description
- Three story brick cross gable Queen Anne/Colonial revival house with wrap around porch supported by round columns on raised stone base. Palladian window in front gable surrounded by bands of fish scale and plain shingles. Remaining gables also adorned with shingles. Porch with handicap ramp attaches to one-story extension in northeast corner. Barn in rear of property.
- Date Of Construction
- ca. 1902
- Context
- This fine example of early twentieth century architecture offers the asymmetry, the use of different wall materials as decoration, and free classic detailing of Queen Anne while reflecting the simple, less ornate look of Colonial Revival. While free classic styling and the use of brick and stone were not found in the majority of small town homes built in this style, they work well together and seem to manifest the soundness one would hope to find in a merchant such as its original owner, William Sturm. Mr.Sturm lived here until the 1940s and ran a retail and harness business on Michigan Avenue.
