About the construction
- Description
- One-and-one-half story brick Romanesque Revival church rests on a raised cut stone foundation. A tower rises from the ground between cross gables on the southeast corner and is topped with a shingled spire with four small spires at its base with triple-arched louvers beneath. A small round conical- topped tower sits on the southwest corner. Large round-arch stained glass windows on the east and south facades are a key identifying feature of this style. New porches on both front entrances of the church were constructed in 1954. Romanesque motif is continued on the interior.

- Context
- The Saline Presbyterian Church derives its significance from both architecture and religion according to the National Register nomination. Architects, Rohns and Spier, were noteworthy for a number of railroad depots, University of Michigan buildings, and churches. The structure is a good example of vernacularly interpreted Romanesque Revival architecture. One of the two earliest established churches in the village, July of 1831, the 12 original members organized in May, 1831 in Newark, New York before coming to Saline. After holding services in homes and schoolhouses, they erected a Greek Revival church on this site in 1842 on land which was donated by Orange Risdon. This building was completed in 1898.
