Context
John Henry Barr, the original owner, was a farmer and an orchardist. He operated a cider and sorghum mill just north of the house. John Henry, a carpenter, had learned his trade from E.W. Ford who operated a business on N. Ann Arbor. John's obituary stated that he built this house. John owned the land south to Willis Road, and on both sides of the present S. Ann Arbor St. Willam Barr, his son, built a large, Queen Anne house nearby (550 S. Ann Arbor). Another son, George lived at 211. After John Henry's death, George and his wife lived in the house until about 1951. Then Genevieve Barr Martin, George's daughter, owned the house until about 1964. This house is visible on the 1872 Bird's Eye View of Saline.
