About the construction

Description: Gable front and wing, Folk House. Gable section is two stories, and wing is one story. Partial width porch with spindlework supports. Asbestos shingle siding. Windows are one light over one. Large addition to north and west facades. Addition to rear. Stone foundation under the older section; and wood foundation under new addition. Two car garage at rear.
Date Of Construction: 1878 ca.
Context: Charles Burkhart probably built the house around 1878, and lived there through 1906. Charles operated a general store on W. Chicago. Thomas Ross (a painter) and his wife, Caroline, lived in the house from about 1910- 1920. Chauncey Fitzgerald lived there from about 1926 -1935. Oren and Loretta Corl lived in the house in 1945 and 1947. Other owners: Vance Hollis; Oscar Hosmer; Richard Baldwin; Barbara Wild 1978 to the present. Garage rebuilt 1976. New addition in 1993.
