About the construction

Description: Gable-end two story frame building fenestrated with large multi-paned windows and clerestory on ridgeline. There are one story wings on the east and south facades, and a small two story extension on the west end of the north facade. Although this building was not built during the Greek Revival period, its return cornices give it a classical ambiance.

Architect/Builder: Ford Motor Company
Context: The Extractor Plant was built in Henry Ford's version of Greek Revival architecture for the purpose of processing soy beans. This effort was part of Ford's Village Industries; the product of a philosophy in which agriculture and industry combined to enable families to enjoy small town living. The plant utilized local farmer's soy beans to be used in the manufacture of plastics, with by-products used in animal feed. The building is currently being used as a banquet facility.
