About the construction

Description: Two story, brick building. Double plate glass 3/4 windows on front facade with double glass door. Yellow brick first story front (east) facade. Awnings to upper story windows. Iron steps to second story. Windows are one over one.
Date Of Construction: 1890
Context: Built by George Lindenschmidt as a meat market. Purchased by John George Schmid in 1897, and except for a few years under the ownership of Fred Lahyer (brother-in-law), it remained in the Schmid family for four generations. John George came from Germany, where he learned the butchering trade. He had a slaughterhouse on Monroe, and sold his meats in Ann Arbor. When he had the opportunity, he bought the market on S. Ann Arbor, and made a specialty of home cured meats and fine foods. It remained in the Schmid family until about 1956. Fred Bleicher bought the property in 1979, and then Pentad Properties. It was the Hornet Bike Shop, and All Time Video, before becoming Little Caesar's.
