Context
George Burkhardt was president of Saline Savings Bank. The house remained in the Burkhardt family at least through 1947, then sold to John Hull, and then to Frank Mayfield. This house is a transitional style between the late nineteenth and twentieth century styles. It combines details of the earlier Queen Anne, and the soon to be popular Tudor, and Prairie/Craftsman styles. The crossed gable form, the bays, and varied wall treatments are carryovers from the Queen Anne style. The half timbering, stucco, and porch are typical Tudor features. The outlining around the windows is characteristic of the Prairie/Craftsman styles.
