Context
The office section was added in 1946, and the porch in 1950. Several changes have occurred on the interior: a new ceiling in the parlor; a fireplace; and a chimney have been removed. Despite these changes, this home is a very fine example of Italianate architecture. In addition, it is one of the older homes in Saline. This building represents the first wave of residential construction extending north of the "four corners". The original owner, Zalmon Church, was street commissioner in 1869, and held several other village posts. After his death in 1880, his estate went to his daughter, Mary Church Eaton, wife of lawyer Peter Eaton, another prominent resident of early Saline. The house is listed on the National Register.
