I use the expression “biologists of the Modern Synthesis” to designate both biologists usually considered as actors of the Modern Synthesis (1930s-1950s) – e.g., Dobzhansky, Simpson, Stebbins, Huxley, Mayr, Fisher, Haldane, Wright, Rensch – and biologists who did not participate to the Synthesis but agreed with its main assumptions at that time.
