"Intended" is my own emphasis meant to draw attention to the now largely discarded critical theory that literary criticism should not speculate about a writer's intention(s) in a text as this would be tantamount to "intentional fallacy": a critic cannot possibly identify a writer's intention in a text nor a text's intention for that matter. Writers' biographies and the changing nature of literary theory have since invalidated this stance.
