This sheet, cut from a larger sheet, features a study of a woman’s face in profile in the upper left. Her hair is bound. A nearly frontal view of another woman’s face is at the center bottom of the sheet. She looks down to her left and wears a jeweled headpiece or crown. Three other smaller and more lightly sketched heads also appear on the sheet, two along the left edge and one on the right.

This is a 21cm tall bronze sculpture of a nude female figure seated on a stump-like form with her legs extending out in front of her and crossed at the ankles. She leans the weight of her body on her left arm, as her left hand grasps the edge of the stump. Her right arm is bent and raised, with the back of her hand resting against the left side of her head. She is gazing downward and her arm seems to be shielding her face. Her hair is pulled back and gathered in a knot. The patina is dark brown and the metal surface has a uneven appearance.

The center woman is shown with her torso straight on towards the viewer, her knees bent and pointing to the left, and her head tilted down and to the right. The woman laying down is shown with her head closest to the viewer, so we can only see the top of her head, her shoulders, her chest, and her hip. The background is mostly shadow, with small bits of light showing through some drapes.

This painting illustrates a verse from a Digambara Jain manuscript that likens the capacity of praising the Jina to destroy sins to the way the sun obliterates darkness; it shows a sun with the face of a Jina illuminating the sky. The golden-hued Jina and the monk who venerate a Jina are nude, identifying them as belonging to the Digambara (sky-clad) sect of Jainism.
