This lithograph is printed is tones of brown ink on cream colored paper. There is a large dappled horse standing in a stall with a back hoof raised. On the left, a man, standing with feet braced and muscular arms extended, uses tools to attach a shoe to the horse's hoof. Steam billows from the hot metal shoe. On the right, a man stands leaning against the stall and a small child reaches up toward the horse's reins. The horse bends its head down toward the child. There is English writing below this scene that identifies the artist, title and publisher.
Entire print is backed with a peice of beige laid paper. There is a hole in the print at the left-cetner. A tear has been repared at the lower left corner. Print was trimmed just larger than the frame, leaving more space at the bottom of the image. Paper size: h 20 3/5cm x tw 28 1/5cm & bw 28 2/5cm. Image size: h 19 1/2cm x tw 27 9/10cm & bw 28 1/10cm.

The single figure of a beggar dominates the composition. Dressed in rags and leaning on a staff, the figure faces the viewer and is shown walking with only slight indication of setting, principally the man's shadows.
