Two large wooden chests stacked on top of each other. They each feature a set of small doors in the center with silver corners, knobs, and hinges. The top chest has an open-shelf area just underneath the table-top. The wood inlay of the chests create a geometric - square and rectangle pattern of the raised wood.
A chest in three pieces, all stacked on top of on another. The two chest pieces feature small center doors with decorative iron fittings around the handles and the hinges. Decorative iron fittings are added at each wood inlay location.
A woodblock print on toned paper of an abstract rendition of a skyline of chimneys. There is perspective in the use of tall chimneys attached to their base structures, while chimenys in the distance remain shorter and thinner.
Christ giving communion to the Apostles in an historiated initial "C"
Artist Unknown, Netherlands
Eight robed male figures, each with a halo, kneel before a v-shaped bench or rail. They face a male figure with a crossed halo that stands on the other side of the bench, holding a golden chalice in his left hand and a circular white wafer imprinted with a crucifixion scene in his right. An altar draped with a red cloth appears behind him. The entire scene is enframed within the letter "C."
Console with bird in vine scroll, rinceau, and angel
Anonymous French (Burgundy)
A three-quarter length angel, robustly carved in high relief, emerges from a cloud bank on the curved inner face of the console. The outer face of the console bears a tightly wound vine scroll carved in shallower relief with a bird at its center. The bird grasps the vine with its left leg while stretching back to grasp a cluster of grapes in its beak.
The viewer is presented with an illusionistic rendering of a corner an ornate celiing. Architectural moldings, windows, and a still life in the corner with a globe and measuring instruments suggest that this might have been intended for a library
This image includes the figures of two men, lounging at one of the 16th century well-heads of the courtyard; a third fiture appears to be a uniformed guard, keeping watch. The image is toned in browns.
This painting shows a scene set in a courtyard with high white walls that is open to the sky. Beyond the wall there is flowering vegetation, tall trees and a tower with a balustrade with keyhole shaped openings. There are two clay pots resting on top of the wall and an oriental style carpet hanging over one side. Within this courtyard, there are three women who are looking at two small leopards that wear metal chains and stand in a keyhole shaped opening of the far right wall. The women, grouped together on the far left side, are wearing 19th century Moroccan dress, including richly embroidered, garments, headscarves and shoes. There is bright sunlight streaming into the room which creates shadows on the walls and floor.
The front of this handsome oak credenza, or sideboard, is divided into halves by three pilasters. Each half is outfitted with a drawer and a door below. The decorative and functional components are artfully arranged across the front of the piece to form a balanced composition of repeated geometric shapes and harmonious proportions.
A nude woman is seen in profile crouching and turning her head toward the viewer. She is backed up against a short pedestal or wal, on top of which a winged cupid bends towards the woman. On the right side is a slender tree, and behind the figures is an expansive landscape.
A man and woman embrace in center; the man appears in a dress coat, the woman in a very large hat. She looks out at the viewer, while the man's head is turned to the left. Near the woman's left elbow is the outline of a suggested figure; another embracing couple is outlined to the right. The smaller figures suggest a perspective and size to the space, only suggested through brief lines and indistinct objects on the left. Artist's sketch from life; Kirchner developed a rapid, stroke-oriented (as opposed to detail-oriented) sketch style when out in the world.
Scene of three nude people (two women, one man) and a skeleton in a room next to a bathroom that is sketched on the left hand side of the scene. The skeleton is wrapping itself around the younger woman while the older woman, in darker and more opaque colors tries to free her. The man in the back is depicted as much smaller and week, lagging behind.
