- Physical Description
- An abstract painting done in various shades of grays, browns and greens. The background is painted in thick, unblended horisontal strokes. A group of men, one dressed in blue robes and the rest nude, extend their arms and a white flag, possibly in a sign of surrender or possibly for rescue. All are facing away from the viewer except for one, who is much paler than the others and looks quite emaciated. They appear to be floating on a raft but it is difficult to say if they are on water or land.

- Combat of Romans and Dacians (after a relief on the Arch of Constantine, Rome)
- Artist
- Nicolas Beatrizet
- Physical Description
- This engraving reproduces a relief sculpture from the second century CE of Roman soldiers under Emperor Trajan conquering the Dacians in what is today Romania. The sculpture was later removed from its original monument built to honor Trajan and incorporated into the Arch of Constantine, erected in Rome by the emperor Constantine between 312 and 315.
- The relief depicts mounted Roman soldiers, dressed in their characteristic armor and helmets, surging to the left and right from the center of the scene. A group of soldiers sounding horns stands in their midst. The Romans' vanquished Dacian foes lie trampled beneath the horses' hooves.

- Philbert-Louis Debucourt
- Physical Description
- This colored etching with aquatint depicts a night scene of a large illuminated cascade of fountains. A raised architectural structure with three arches is placed in the center left of the composition. A series of cascades descend from this structure and lead into a pool of water decorated with a series of geyser fountains spouting water upward. Many small groups of figures in elegant costumes are gathered around the water. Their costumes appear to be hand painted in pink, blue, white and black wash. The upper third of the image is devoted to the dark night sky.

- Stiff Box 12
- Artist
- Lucas Samaras
- Physical Description
- Made of thick steel, this sculpture has two very distinct halves. One on side, the thick sheet of steel gracefully curves around and back on itself, making loops and rounded edges. On the reverse, the steel is angular, jagged, and sharp, jutting into the spaces in the sculpture's interior and the space around the whole. At the very center of the piece, along the implied dividing line between the two sides, is a relatively small box.

- Physical Description
- This is a tondo painting with a circular frame that is painted in tones of violet. It is a still-life scene that shows a lamp, resting on a table, set against a green wall. On the wall behind the lamp is a painting, but only the lower right-hand corner is visible due to the sharp curve of the circular format of the painting. On the table, beside the lamp, is a piece of paper and an ink well in the shape of a human figure. The base of the lamp has a curvilinear profile and the pleated shade is painted in bright colors of orange, pink, green and yellow. Both the scene and the frame are painted with short, dot-like brushstrokes.
