Physical Description
Black silk damask with interwoven black lacquered threads that create a shiny effect in the light. Marked "Shizuko" on the bottom.
Subject Matter
Zôri are flat sandals, similar in form to flip-flops, commonly worn with traditional Japanese clothing. Zôri styles can range from casual to formal, and a pair covered in brocade like this would have been reserved to formal attire.
