- Kunisada has depicted Sawamura Tanosuke III here. Sawamura Tanosuke III began acting a a very young age, particularly in onnagata roles, and was a genius in the delineation of women's characters. After an injury to his feet, the actor eventually suffered from gangrene. Though both feet were eventually amputated, Tanosuke III remained popular and continued to appear on the stage, supported by several black-robed property-men
