INTRODUCTORY NOTES. The Phi Beta Kappa Society was originally founded at William and Mary College, in Virginia. The original Alpha of Virginlia is now extinct. The branches of the Society -at the present time are eight in number, viz: Alpha of Massachusetts, at Harvard University, Cambridge. Alpha of Connecticut, at Yale Collcige, New-IIaven. Alpha of New-Hampshire, at Dartmouth College, Hanover. Alpha of New-York, at Union Colle'ge, Schenectady. Alpha of Maine, at Bowdoin College, Brunswick. Alpha of Rhode Island, at Brown University, Providence. Alpha of Vermont, at the University of Vermont, Burlington. Alpha of Ohio, at Western Reserve College, Hudson. In this Catalogue the names of the Alumni of this College are arranged under the year in which they graduated, excepting those who graduated before the institution of the Society. The names of such will be found with the first class on the Catalogue. The names of all others are placed beneath a line, separating them from the Alumni, under the year in which they were admitted to the Society. The letters and figures added, between brackets, to the names of such persons, mark the College at wbhch they have received their degrees, and the year of their graduation.
