White wrote Butler on December 30 from Eastville, Virginia: ``In obedience to your telegram, received this morning, I have the honor to enclose the only order issued by me concerning an election upon this shore. This order was issued by me in obedience to what I supposed to be your instructions. . . .'' ( Private and Official Correspondence of General Benjamin F. Butler, V, 444). The order has not been found.
