Annotation

[1]   AES, DNA WR RG 153, Judge Advocate General, NN 3355. Lincoln's endorsement appears in the court-martial record of William M. Patterson, chaplain, CSA, sentenced to imprisonment for the duration of the war on charges of violating laws of war and being a spy. Holt recommended pardon upon taking the oath, and Lincoln approved on March 22, 1865.
