``Cypher'' Office U.S. Military Telegraph,
Lieut. Genl. Grant War Department,
City Point, Va. Washington, D.C., March 2 1865

You have not sent contents of Richmond papers for Tuesday or Wednesday.

Did you not receive them? If not, does it indicate anything?

[1]   ALS, DNA WR RG 107, Presidential Telegrams, I, 361. Grant replied at 12:30 P.M.: ``Richmond papers received daily. No bulletins were sent Tuesday or Wednesday because there was not an item of either good or bad news in them. There is every indication that Genl Sherman is perfectly safe. I am looking every day for direct news from him.'' (DLC-RTL).
