 American Art Association Anderson Galleries Catalog 4020, February 21, 1933, No. 158. According to the catalog description, Lincoln's endorsement appears on the back of a letter from John M. Palmer, recommending Dr. Stephenson for a sutlership at Camp Butler, Illinois. Dr. Benjamin F. Stephenson had served as surgeon of the Fourteenth Illinois Volunteers from April, 1862 to June, 1864.
