 D, DNA WR RG 107, Presidential Telegrams, I, 306. On the received copy of this telegram appears Grant's endorsement to Major General John G. Parke: ``The above just received. Please send proceedings to these Head Quarters.'' (DNA WR RG 108, Headquarters of the Army, Letters Received, P 25). A telegram from Nellie O. Shaffer, Concord (no state), January 26, 1865, asked: ``My husband Hamel Shaffer is sentenced to be shot tomorrow at City Pt Will you please delay the sentence until I reach him answer immedy'' (DLC-RTL). Efforts to identify Hamel Shaffer and locate the record of his case have failed, but see Lincoln's telegram to Grant, February 6, infra.
