 AES, OFH. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a letter from Thaddeus Stevens, October 15, 1864, recommending ``the Revd. Mr. Bishop'' for appointment as hospital chaplain. Acting Surgeon General Charles H. Crane endorsed, ``Very respectfully returned to His Excellency the President. There is no vacancy at present in any hospital.'' The Reverend Mr. Bishop has not been further identified.
