Woods, Lewistown, Maine, September 12, 1864, introducing Mrs. Ellen Contner, who wished to ask a pardon for her son, Albert Contner, ``convicted of manslaughter nearly three years since. . . . The young man volunteered among the first in the defence of Washington . . . & the offence was committed . . . under the influence of liquor. . . .''
