Lincoln's endorsement (misdated October 16, 1863, in Lapsley, VI, 450) appears on a letter to Seward dated at New York on October 15, 1864, and signed with the unidentified initials ``P.J.J.'': ``On the point of leaving I am told by a gentleman to whose statements I attach Credit, that the opposition Policy for the Presidential Campaign will be to `abstain from voting.' ''
