To Doctor--- [1]

Dear Doctor: Springfield, Nov. 2. 1859

Your business makes it convenient for you to do a good deal in the way of getting all our friends to the polls next Tuesday. Please do it. We begin to hope we can elect Palmer. [2] He is a good man, and deserves to be elected, both for his own, and the cause's sake.

Yours truly A. LINCOLN

[1]   ALS, RPB. The editors have been unable to identify the doctor whose business in the sixth congressional district would have justified Lincoln's request.

[2]   John M. Palmer was defeated by Democrat John A. McClernand.
