[1]   AES, RPB. The document has a square cut out which removes portions of the writing. The reconstruction is the editors'. Anson L. Brewer, an attorney of New Lisbon, Ohio, wrote on November 17, 1852, ``I should like very much to hear how you are getting along in the collection of the claim of Kelly v. Blackledge.'' Lincoln's endorsement probably represents the substance of his answer. Further reference to the case of James Kelly v. Jesse D. Blackledge will be found in Lincoln's letters to Brewer on March 16, July 27, and November 5, 1855, infra. Kelly was a building contractor and Blackledge a well-to-do resident of Pickawa County, Ohio, who had removed to Logan County, Illinois.
