Speech at Edwardsville, Illinois
The speeches of Hon. A. LINCOLN, Hon. JOHN M. PALMER, Col. DELAHAY and Hon. J. GILLESPIE were both able and eloquent, and listened to with an attention seldom witnessed. The present position and prospects of the Republican party were truthfully set forth, and although no two of the speakers perfectly agreed upon the details of political action, all were unanimous in declaring their opposition to the fraudulent attempts of the administration and the slave power to force institutions upon a free people against their consent.
